Fundación Cepsa gaining close knowledge on how the winning projects of the last edition of the Social Value Awards are being implemented, which in this visit has focused on the winning project in the 2020 edition of the Afemen Association, which consists of carrying out a social integration program aimed at people with severe mental illness in the municipality of Algeciras.
As part of this program, Afemen offers users a sports area, handicrafts, painting, literature and computer workshops, as well as education on healthy habits and psychological assistance for participants and their families. There are also scheduled outdoor activities such as hiking and beach days. The project will continue until the end of the year and, thanks to the Social Value Award, improvements could be made at the headquarters, where a part of the headquarters will be arranged so that psychological care can be provided in a private setting.
The head of Fundación Cepsa in the Campo de Gibraltar, Estrella Blanco, visited the facilities of Afemen in Algeciras, together with its director Blas Garcia, who explained that this resource has remained open during the pandemic working with bubble groups, as they have had to adapt to the requirements of the COVID-19 safety protocols. Currently, they have a total of 64 users, including referrals from the Mental Health area of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS).
For her part, the head of the Fundación Cepsa stated that "Afemen carries out important social work and shows that people with mental health problems, with the necessary support, can carry out their lives normally."
The Social Value Awards
These awards are one of the stand-out initiatives of Fundación Cepsa. The aim of the awards is to provide support to individuals, associations, and underprivileged sectors of society so as to foster a spirit of solidarity and promote educational and cultural development through the involvement of Cepsa staff, who sponsor the programs that the associations of the Campo de Gibraltar region submit as candidates to receive the Social Value Awards. The period for submitting entries to the 2021 competition will open in September.
