The winning organizations, selected from a pool of 61 candidates, will share a total of €75,000 to develop their projects over the next year. According to their estimates, 195 people in the archipelago will benefit directly and another 470 indirectly.
Candelaria Delgado, Councilor for Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children, and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, chaired the jury, joined by Lola Padrón, the Common Representative; Águeda Fumero, Councilor for Social Action, Citizen Participation, Volunteering, and Inclusion of the Cabildo Tenerife; Isabel Mena, Councilor for Social Policy, Accessibility, Equality, and Diversity of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria; Charín González, Councilor for Social Action and President of the IMAS of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council; Carmen Luz Vargas, Councilor for Social Welfare, Equality, Care, and Health of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council; and Beatriz Sicilia, head of the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program. The jury also included Vicente Martínez, representing Moeve's professionals, and Belén Machado, the head of Fundación Moeve in the Canary Islands.
Candelaria Delgado stated, "These awards are extremely important because they help us highlight the often unsung work of so many organizations in the Canary Islands, which manage to reach places where the Administration cannot. These organizations remind us of the importance of caring for others; their work provides life-changing opportunities for hundreds of people on our islands. Our task at the Government is to continue improving our funding channels for the third sector, ensuring they can carry out their work under the best possible conditions."
For her part, Belén Machado congratulated the three winning entities and reminded everyone that "what makes these awards different, well established after 20 editions, is the involvement of the company's professionals, who have sponsored or supported the 61 entities presented across the Islands. The jury faced a challenging task in selecting the three winners, as all of the nominated organizations are doing work that is truly admirable and deserving of recognition.”
