The 2022 Fundación Cepsa Chair awards ceremony was held in the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras Graduation Hall of the University of Cádiz (UCA). These awards have been recognizing and promoting leading scientific research since 2006, focused on articles, invention patents, and utility models, as well as university theses that help to promote innovation in the fields of energy, oil, and the environment.
In this edition, the Fundación Cepsa Chair has recognized Leonor María Sillero Moreno in the category of Scientific-Technical Article for her article Anaerobic co-digestion in thermophilic-mesophilic temperature phase of sewage sludge, wine stillage and poultry manure: Effect of hydraulic retention time on the mesophilic-methanogenic phase.
Jose Manuel Reales Gonzalez was also recognized for his Final Degree Project "Preparing fuel supply facilities for maritime storage."
Finally, in the invention patent category, Ismael Romero Ocaña was awarded for a composite material for use in stereolithography and the procedure for obtaining it, which opens up opportunities for the cork industry in the area.
On this occasion, it was also decided to provide a special mention to Irene González Muñoz for her final degree project Integration of the Liquefiable Petroleum Gas Recovery Unit (GasconII) in the treatment of olefinic butanes in the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking (FCC) plant.
In addition to the winners, the event was attended by María Jesús Mosquera, vice-rector of Science Policy of the UCA; Francisco Trujillo, director of the Fundación Cepsa Chair; and Estrella Blanco, representative of the Fundación Cepsa.
During the ceremony, the winning students took the opportunity to share some words about the works that had earned the recognition of the joint committee of the Fundación Cepsa Chair for their innovation, originality, scientific and technological approach, relevance and applicability.
Estrella Blanco, head of Fundación Cepsa, highlighted "the efforts of students and professors in research to present high level work to the Chair Awards, the result of the Fundación Cepsa's commitment to the University of Cadiz and quality education".
Since its inception in 2005, the Chair has focused on promoting and encouraging aspects related to education, research, technology transfer and dissemination. The relationship between the University of Cadiz and Cepsa dates back to the founding of the College of Technical Industrial Engineering in Algeciras, and gained momentum when the School became the Polytechnic School in 1988 now the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras. Since then, the two institutions have collaborated on numerous occasions, and have signed a wide range of specific agreements.
