- Fundación Cepsa is helping mobilize 100 ambulances for the emergency transport of infected patients as part of the Red Cross Response Plan
- The organization has also provided the regional authorities of Madrid and the Canary Islands—and soon to regional governments in Andalusia—with a supply of fuel cards to assist in medical travel associated with COVID-19
Fundación Cepsa has donated €15,000 to the Spanish Red Cross to help with the urgent transport of people infected with COVID-19. In this way, the entity partially collaborates with the mobilization of 100 ambulances in two months.
The contribution has been made as part of the campaign launched by the Red Cross called the Red Cross Response Plan: a program of measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support over 1.3 million people through telephone calls to check on and offer help to those in need, the delivery of essential items, help with employment and shelter for the homeless. This plan is already taking shape thanks to the organization’s own resources and contributions from the public administration, businesses and the general public.
According to Gabriel Sánchez Parodi, regional secretary of the Red Cross in the Community of Madrid, “the Red Cross Response Plan in response to COVID-19 for vulnerable people and the general population is the largest mobilization of Red Cross resources, skills and people in its history. Since the declaration of the State of Alarm, we have been able to carry out 160,000 acts of assistance thanks to the involvement of more than 11,000 volunteers throughout the country. The collaboration of companies and institutions is also vital to achieve our goal of assisting 1,350,000 people in two months through our various projects and services. One of the most crucial services at present is urgent health transport, which is why the involvement of organizations such as Fundación Cepsa will enable us to continue to provide and intensify care for the people who need us most."
Furthermore, with the objective of supporting the health authorities, last week Fundación Cepsa supplied the regional governments of Madrid and the Canary Islands—and will soon extend this offer to regional governments in Andalusia—the provision of fuel cards totaling €50,000 to help the health authorities and other organizations actively involved in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.
In parallel with this package of measures being promoted by its Foundation, Cepsa maintains all its efforts focused on maintaining energy supply, an essential service both to ensuring the availability of energy required in homes and public spaces (hospitals, security forces, stations, ports, airports, etc.) and ensuring the supply of raw materials for manufacturing sanitary products and detergents, which the company produces in its petrochemical facilities. Ensuring this essential service is its main objective today, as well as protecting people's health at all times, collaborating to stop the spread of the virus and maintaining constant coordination with the authorities of the different countries in which it operates.
This week, the company has also donated PPE (glasses, gloves and coveralls) to the health management departments in Huelva and Campo de Gibraltar of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), to help protect hospital staff.
