Fundación Moeve works with food banks in Tenerife and Las Palmas to help transport food

Fundación Moeve, dedicated to social welfare and the power of collaboration between organizations, has donated gas cards to the Food Banks of Tenerife and Las Palmas. These cards will help keep the vehicles running that are essential for distributing food—a vital part of both organizations’ community work.

Belén Machado, the head of Fundación Moeve in the Canary Islands, personally delivered the gas cards and took the opportunity to highlight the “quiet work of the food banks, which have always been dedicated to the well-being of our community. This is made possible thanks to the daily efforts of so many volunteers who selflessly give their time, their hearts, and their enthusiasm to support families in need.” "Supporting food banks is a way to ensure that help really reaches those who need it most," she emphasized.

Hernán Cerón, President of the Food Bank of Tenerife, and Pedro Llorca, President of the Food Bank of Las Palmas, also highlighted the vital role volunteers play as the backbone of their organizations. They expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received from civil society, businesses, other organizations, and public administrations, whose combined efforts help provide food to thousands of families in need.

They reminded everyone that the two food banks together serve more than 40,000 people in the Canary Islands every year. However, as the Canary Islands are the second most poverty-stricken region in the country, they stressed that more help is always needed. They also pointed out that need doesn’t follow a calendar, so it’s crucial that the spirit of solidarity, which is so present during the Christmas holidays, continues throughout the year.
