Fundación Cepsa works with the Hermandad del Rocio de Huelva to clean the path to the village

    • Both organizations, in their commitment to the environment, support the Doñana Park Ranger service to protect the environment during the pilgrimage
The Hermandad del Rocío de Huelva has the support of Fundación Cepsa in making the path to the village totally sustainable after signing an agreement where they committed to the collecting waste and maintaining roads as the pilgrims pass through.

Fundación Cepsa has been collaborating for more than 20 years with the Hermandad in its social and cultural activities. This year, the collaboration is focused on supporting the efforts of the pilgrims from Huelva to eliminate the possible environmental impact on the Doñana park during the journey to El Rocío.

The Hermandad, in addition to having very stringet environmental performance rules on the path, with sanctions and direct contact with the Guardia Civil, makes an enormous effort in the tasks of waste collection. They will receive Fundación Cepsa's support in these tasks.

Glass recycling is guaranteed thanks to a truck with a 5-ton capacity. The route's key, Las Posadillas, La Matilla, and Gato, will have garbage collection containers. Pilgrims will be provided with more than 5,000 garbage bags and recyclable water containers, and 11 operators will supervise the entire route to prevent waste from being left.

“Eliminating the pilgrimage's impact is possible thanks to the work of the governing board of the Hermandad del Rocío de Huelva and the collaboration of all the people making the pilgrimage. For Fundación Cepsa it is very important to be part of these tasks and make such an important tradition consistent with protecting our much-loved Doñana Park.”

Narciso Rojas - Head of Fundación Cepsa in Huelva

Juan Carlos Rubio highlighted the importance of the link between the Fundación Cepsa and the Hermandad, "they are always there to support our social, and now environmental, activities. This is all important work for us, so having groups such as Fundación Cepsa by our side is crucial."

The Hermandad del Rocío have achieved, not without effort, a sustainable Rocío. Support from organizations such as Fundación Cepsa in this task is very important to ensure that tradition and sustainability endure over time.
