- More than 60 families will benefit from this aid, thanks to the Social Value Awards
- The measures adopted result in savings of up to 600 euros per year in each home
During the visit, the head of Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands, Belén Machado, and Ana Belén Álvarez, the project's solidarity sponsor at Cepsa, were received by the regional director of Provivienda, Fernando Rodríguez, and Alejandro Aguilar, the technician in charge of the energy saving project.
Belén Machado highlighted how pleased Fundación Cepsa was “to contribute to giving continuity for another year to a program that Provivienda has been developing since 2018, and which has had a significant impact on the lives of the families that have benefited. The notable reduction in their electric bills in many cases allows them to allocate those resources to other basic needs, which is a great relief for them.” Furthermore, she stressed that “this project promotes sustainability at the same time”.
Fernando Rodríguez, regional director of Provivienda in the Canary Islands, said that the Fundación Cepsa award “is a recognition of the work we have been doing, and provides a very noticeable economic boost, making it possible to provide new opportunities and to expand access to energy efficiency aid to more households in need”.
“The selection criteria for receiving this aid are based on a detailed analysis of the family situation, economic income, state of the housing facilities, and utility bills, ensuring that the contributions reach the people who really need them,” said the regional director.
Aid granted through the Social Value Awards has enabled the acquisition of a variety of essential household appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, freezers, water heaters, glass ceramic hobs, gas hobs, fans and dehumidifiers. Energy efficiency kits will also be delivered to families in need.
To date, at the halfway point of the program, a total of 36 households in the Canary Islands have been the beneficiaries of the economic aid linked to the Prize. These are low-income families in situations of extreme vulnerability who have household appliances with high energy consumption, which results in very high utility bills.
The impact on energy savings has been remarkable. Depending on the consumption level of the old household appliances, annual savings in utilities are estimated to range from 60 to more than 600 euros. This not only benefits the families financially, but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Additional aid is expected to be granted to some 25 more families throughout the rest of 2024.
About Provivienda
Since 1989, Provivienda has been working to ensure that everyone enjoys the right to housing on equal terms, seeking social inclusion through housing. At our association, we want to offer homes that change lives and create community, addressing residential needs, especially those of people in the most difficult situations.
Access to decent housing on equal terms is the basis for social inclusion, especially for those with the greatest difficulties. Foreigners, asylum seekers, beneficiaries of international protection, young people, the homeless, victims of evictions, or women victims of violence are some of the people they work with on a daily basis.
Social Value Awards
These annual awards, which began in 2005, are one of the stand-out initiatives of Fundación Cepsa. They are held in the Canary Islands, Madrid, Huelva, Campo de Gibraltar, Portugal, and Colombia, and are aimed at supporting disadvantaged people, groups and sectors, in addition to promoting solidarity values by involving Cepsa's professionals, who sponsor the projects presented by the non-profit organizations.
In the Canary Islands, a total of 74 projects have already been recognized as part of these awards, with a contribution of 712,000 euros from Fundación Cepsa in the Islands.
The 2024 call will start on September 2.
