- Leonor María Sillero, Jose Manuel Reales, and Ismael Romero, recognized at this edition of the Fundación Cepsa Chair Awards
- The Chair awards its first research grants with an endowment of 40,000 euros
In the case of the Fundación Cepsa Chair Awards, which are granted to capstone and research projects, patents and publications related to the energy sector and sustainability, the committee of experts decided to award the following projects for their innovation and originality, and their scientific-technological approach, as well as for their importance and applicability.
In this edition, the Fundación Cepsa Chair has recognized Leonor María Sillero Moreno in the category of Scientific-Technical Article for her article Anaerobic co-digestion in thermophilic-mesophilic temperature phase of sewage sludge, wine stillage and poultry manure: Effect of hydraulic retention time on the mesophilic-methanogenic phase.
Jose Manuel Reales Gonzalez was also recognized for his work "Preparing fuel supply facilities for maritime storage."
Finally, in the invention patent category, Ismael Romero Ocaña was awarded for a composite material for use in stereolithography and the procedure for obtaining it, which opens up opportunities for the cork industry in the area.
On this occasion, it was also decided to provide a special mention to Irene González Muñoz for her final degree project Integration of the Liquefiable Petroleum Gas Recovery Unit (GasconII) in the treatment of olefinic butanes in the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking (FCC) plant.
The Committee of the Fundación Cepsa Chair has also awarded four research grants in this first call, allocating 40,000 euros to promote the lines of study related to energy transition and circular economy that are being undertaken at the University of Cadiz.
The winners of this first edition were the following projects: Producing volatile fatty acids, enzymatic extracts and bio-hydrogen from macroalgae biomass in a circular economy process, by the research team led by Cristina Agabo García; New technology to produce hydrogen from industrial waste, by the team whose principal investigator is Juan Ramón Portela Miguelez; Using algae biomass waste to obtain biocrude through hydrothermal liquefaction, by the research team led by Jezabel Sánchez Oneto; and Characterization and diagnosis of the evaluation of sludge generated in oil refining, by the team led by researcher Inmaculada Ramos Lerate.
Since its inception in 2005, the Fundación Cepsa Chair has focused on promoting and encouraging aspects related to education, research, technology transfer and dissemination. The relationship between the University of Cadiz and Cepsa dates back to the founding of the College of Technical Industrial Engineering in Algeciras, which is now the Higher School of Engineering of Algeciras. Since then, the two institutions have collaborated on numerous occasions, and have signed a wide range of specific agreements.
The Fundación Cepsa Chairs
Fundación Cepsa Chairs at the Universities of Cadiz, Huelva, Seville and La Laguna and the Technical University of Madrid are continually strengthened thanks to the contributions and involvement of the company's professionals and the academic institutions committed to improving research, training, knowledge flow, and innovation.
Fundación Cepsa Chairs have allowed thousands of students to approach the world of work and bring university professors closer to the reality of the energy and chemical sectors. The exchange of knowledge and experience between Cepsa professionals, university teachers, and students has meant, for two decades, the professional enrichment of all of them. For all these reasons, today Cepsa is an outstanding partner of these universities.
