Fundación Cepsa and the Andalusian Government Maintain their Commitment to Promote the Carteia Archaeological Site

    • Thanks to the 2020 agreement, the Roman Forum is being restored and a documentary about the site is set to be produced
    • Fundación Cepsa highlights its commitment to this historic enclave
Fundación Cepsa and the Andalusian Government Agency of Cultural Institutions signed an agreement for another year of collaboration on the Carteia archaeological site, located in the municipality of San Roque (Cadiz).

Specifically, this year, the support of Fundación Cepsa will make it possible to make a documentary about the Carteia archaeological site, its importance, its history and its strategic and historic significance. It will be shown to the site’s visitors. Within the framework of this collaboration agreement, work is already underway to adapt the platform of the Roman Forum.

The signing ceremony was attended by the manager of the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, Almudena Bocanegra, as well as Fundación Cepsa’s top manager in Andalusia, Jesús Velasco. At this meeting, which took place at the agency's headquarters in Seville, different forms of future collaboration at the Carteia archaeological site were presented.

Estrella Blanco, head of Fundación Cepsa in Campo de Gibraltar, said that the archaeological site of Carteia is "proof of the region’s cultural and historical richness" and insisted on the "firm commitment of Fundación Cepsa to maintain its collaboration with this enclave to ensure archaeological research continues there."

Cepsa's collaboration with the archaeological site of Carteia, owned by the government of Andalusia, goes back more than two decades, and is now led by Fundación Cepsa. Over this time, different actions have been carried out such as the conservation and enhancement of the Roman Circus, the visitors’ trail and historiography, historical cartography, palaeo-environmental studies and palaeo-topography studies, among others. Thanks to the constant support and close relationship between both institutions and the involvement of their professionals, it has been possible to carry out not only minimal restoration and maintenance on the ruins and buildings, but also archaeological research and restoration, as well as sharing information with the scientific community and society as a whole.
