Fundación Cepsa receives the FESBAL "Estrellas COVID-19" award for its aid to food banks during the pandemic

    • In 2020, the foundation made a donation of 320,000 euros to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks and its 54 Food Banks associated, which allowed the delivery of 480,000 kilos of food and basic necessities
    • This contribution, which included more than 60,000 euros from Cepsa employees, helped feed more than 3,200 people for two months through Food Banks in Madrid, Huelva, Campo de Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands
    • In addition to its collaboration with FESBAL, in 2020, Fundación Cepsa deployed a shock plan against the effects of COVID-19 that included, among other actions, the donation of fuel vouchers for the transportation of medical personnel and equipment

The aid that Fundación Cepsa provided during the pandemic has been recognized by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) and the 54 Food Banks associated with this body with the "Estrellas COVID-19" award. The award came during the 2nd edition of the FESBAL "Star Awards", which this year focused on the cooperation provided during the situation caused by the health crisis and its economic and social repercussions.

In 2020, Fundación Cepsa made a donation to FESBAL in Spain of 320,000 euros, which allowed 480,000 kilos of food and basic necessities to be handed out to families affected by the pandemic. Specifically, more than 3,200 people were given enough food for two months by food banks in Madrid, Huelva, Campo de Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands. The donation included more than 60,000 euros contributed directly by around five hundred Cepsa employees.

“The global coronavirus pandemic led society to a situation never seen before. At Fundación Cepsa, as a result of our extensive relationship with the Food Banks, we were immediately aware that one of the immediate consequences would be an increase in the demand for food and basic necessities, so we mobilized as quickly as possible to help them cope with this unprecedented situation," said Cristina Ortiz, director of Fundación Cepsa, upon receiving the award from the director general of FESBAL, Miguel Fernández.

According to FESBAL, before the pandemic, Food Banks served 1,050,000 beneficiaries and, in 2020, they ended up serving 1,560,000 people, of which more than 300,000 are children aged 0 to 15.

A collaboration that is continuing in 2021

Fundación Cepsa's collaboration with the Food Banks is continuing in 2021. In January of this year, it donated another 13,000 euros to help alleviate the effects of the pandemic, part of it through fuel cards used to refuel the vehicles that the food banks in Campo de Gibraltar, Huelva, Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Portugal use for their charitable work.

Last March, in Tenerife, the foundation donated 28,000 euros for the purchase of food for NGOs in Santa Cruz that collaborate in the distribution of food to the neediest families in the city. More recently, within the framework of its partnership with Fundación Persán to provide hygiene products to the most vulnerable groups, a new donation of 22.5 tons of laundry and dishwasher detergent was made to the Huelva Food Bank, which will benefit the most disadvantaged people in the province.

Fundación Cepsa's contribution to the fight against the effects of COVID-19

In the context of the pandemic, Fundación Cepsa intensified its social support work and launched more than 160 initiatives in collaboration with 155 different entities in the seven countries in which the company operates. In Spain, it provided the regional governments of Madrid, Andalusia, and the Canary Islands, and the Red Cross with fuel cards worth 65,000 euros to help with COVID-19-related travel, both for medical personnel and equipment.

Similarly, the energy company’s social arm reached an agreement with Fundación Persán to jointly contribute a total of 180,000 euros to supply 180 tons of laundry and home-care detergents to 18,000 vulnerable families affected by COVID-19 in Seville, Huelva, and Campo de Gibraltar.

In addition, the foundation made another donation of 5,000 euros to the Portuguese Federation of Food Banks against Hunger.
