The Fundación Cepsa Chair presents its 2019 scientific research awards

    • Cristina Agabo-García and Alicia Ruiz Iglesias picked up awards
    • The winning scientific research projects shone for their innovation, technical excellence, relevance and applicability
The 2019 Fundación Cepsa Chair awards ceremony was held in the Polytechnic School of Algeciras Graduation Hall. These awards have been recognizing and promoting leading scientific investigation since 2006, with the focus being on articles, invention patents and utility models, as well as university theses that help to drive innovation in the fields of energy, oil and the environment.
 
This year, Cristina Agabo-García et al (Montserrat Pérez, Bruno Rodríguez-Morgado, Juan Parrado and Rosario Solera) won the prize in the Scientific-Technological Paper category for their article Improvement of the production of biomethane by enzymatic pretreatments and potentiators of anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge.
 
Alicia María Ruiz Iglesias won in the Theses category for her paper Implementation and further study of the economic and energy saving of Twisted Tubes® technology in H-E2001 changers, at the paraffin plant of the Puente Mayorga chemical plant.
 
As well as the winners and their families and friends, the event was attended by María Jesús Mosquera, Vice-Rector of Scientific Policy at the UCA; Gabriel González, director de la Escuela Politécnica Superior de Algeciras; Francisco Trujillo, Director of the Fundación Cepsa Chair; and Estrella Blanco, representative of Fundación Cepsa.
 
During the ceremony, the winning students took the opportunity to share some words about the works that had earned the recognition of the joint committee of Fundación Cepsa Chair for their innovation, originality, scientific and technological approach, relevance and applicability.
Before the awards ceremony, the audiovisual room was inaugurated, which thanks to the collaboration of the Cepsa Foundation Chair has been set up at the Polytechnic School, where the production of academic courses for the Internet will take place.
 
Since its inception in 2005, the Fundación Cepsa Chair has focused on promoting and supporting aspects related to education, research, technology transfer and outreach. The relationship between the University of Cadiz and Cepsa dates back to the founding of the Algeciras University School of Technical Industrial Engineering, and gained momentum when the School became the Escuela Politécnica Superior (Higher Polytechnic School) in 1988. Since then, the two institutions have collaborated on numerous occasions, and have signed a wide range of specific agreements.


Cepsa Chairs in Andalusia

Cepsa continues to work alongside academia. The Fundación Cepsa-managed chairs at the universities of Huelva, Seville and Cadiz are growing thanks to the contributions and dedication of professionals from all these organizations to improve training, innovation and research.

The Fundación Cepsa chairs in Andalusia have allowed thousands of students to gain first-hand experience of a real working environment, while bringing university professors closer to the reality of industry in Andalusia. Exchanges between technicians and professors have allowed them to hone their skills and apply their newly gained expertise in their daily work. For all these reasons, today Cepsa is a great ally of universities in Andalusia.
