Fundación Cepsa recognizes the talent of 29 school students in the province of Huelva

      • More than 3,000 school students from Huelva have taken part this year in Fundación Cepsa's education programs.
      • School students are introduced to the world of energy and the values of sustainability and respect for the environment.
      • The regional delegations of Education and the Environment and Land Use Planning participate in this initiative.

  • Fundación Cepsa has chosen the winning projects of its school programs ‘Energy Campus’ and ‘World Wetlands Day’. The jury, comprising the Director of the Nature Area of Odiel Marshes, Enrique Martínez; the technical advisor for Environmental Education of the Regional Department for the Environment, Rocío Acosta; the Director of the company Platalea, Diego Vázquez; the photographer María Clauss; the head of Energy Management at La Rábida Refinery, José Manuel Fernández, and the head of Fundación Cepsa in Huelva, Teresa Millán, have selected, from among a total of 78 projects, 97 drawings and 62 photographs, the pieces showing the greatest originality, innovation and creativity in dealing with different aspects of the world of energy and biodiversity in wetlands.

Antón Maestre, from CDP Montessori, in the individual category, and Mercedes Sánchez, Ana Abad, Paula Pulido, Miguel Lorenzo Royo and Laura Jiménez from IES Juan Antonio Pérez Mercader from Huelva, in the group category, are the winners of the thirteenth edition of the ‘Energy Campus’. Both have presented models of distillation towers, the most representative features of the Cepsa factories in Huelva. One of the models shows the different products that are obtained from each oil fraction and some of their applications; the other model, made with beverage cans, also offers a lesson on how to reuse materials to protect our environment, a concept that has been well assimilated in these school programs.

On their part, the winners of the ‘World Wetlands Day´school program were, in the drawing category, the student Adil Zrouqui, from CEIP Pedro Alonso Niño in Moguer, and in the photography category, the student Laura Gutiérrez, from the CDP Virgen del Rocío in Huelva.

The ‘Energy Campus’, an education program aimed at students from the 2nd cycle of ESO, Baccalaureate and Education Cycles, is focused on the learning of subjects related to the world of energy, oil and petrochemicals, via a web platform. This program is supplemented with a day at the Cepsa installations in Huelva, where students assimilate what has been covered in class with a guided visit around the production area and the nature space of Primera de Palos lagoon. A total of 2,612 students from 39 centers from across the province have taken part in this edition.

The ‘World Wetlands Day’ education program, like the previous program, organized by
  • Fundación Cepsa, also in partnership with the regional delegations of Education, Environment and Land Use Planning, is aimed at Primary School students, and coincides with 'World Wetlands Day'.  Throughout the month of February students go to Primera de Palos lagoon, a protected wetlands area, to find out more about the value and importance of this kind of natural space.
